Supplier Snapshot: Absolyte

Absolyte is engineered, marketed and sold by Exide’s GNB Industrial Power business in conjunction with Sandia National Laboratories. One of the best-selling large VLRA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) battery brands in the world, Exide Technologies was founded over 120 years ago and has a rich history in the battery business with innovative contributions to the growth of technology.

Exide batteries are ideal for photovoltaic and alternative energy applications while also serving the stored-energy-needs of a diverse range of other customers, mainly in the fields of transportation and industrial markets.

With its three state-of-the-art technology centers located in the United States, Italy, Germany and Spain, Exide ensures its position as a forerunner of industrial advancement around the world.

Part of the company’s Research & Development (R&D) activities are collaborations with battery industry trade organizations such as Battery Council International (BCI) and technical standards organizations such as the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) as well as participation in conferences and trade shows around the globe.

Manufacturing for Exide’s wide-ranging product portfolio takes place in Europe, USA and Asia as well as through its licensed partners. The company also runs six recycling facilities worldwide. Exide offers Total Battery Management (TBM) in its facilities. This frees customers from the regulatory burdens of handling spent batteries and keeps recyclables in the manufacturing stream rather than landfills.

Local support is available through Exide’s excellent sales and customer service network.

GEM Energy’s Evaluation

For applications where we expect high discharge and fast charge rates we usually recommend the American Absolyte battery.

Their lifespan is marginally less than that of the Sonnenschein Gel batteries but they have other features that make up for this, such as the floor space saving mounting rack they come installed in.
