Exactly 84% of Aussies have chosen solar power over the other sources of fuel, with 64% and 48% in favour of wind and hydro respectively; this is based on information retrieved from  the Climate Institute.

Additional 65% of Australians was in support of wind farm investment in the country with only 11% supporting Prime Minster Abbott’s anti-wind turbine policy.

“Despite a year which has seen renewable energy targets wound back, and attacks on wind power, support for both solar and wind in Australians’ preferred energy mix has grown,” TCI chief John Connor stated.

As seen in the table above, nuclear and gas were preferred by on 20% and 28% respectively. The least preferred source of energy was indicated as coal with only 13% of Australians compared to 15% in 2014. This indicates that solar energy is still the preferred energy source for a majority of Australians, with coal being the least preferred.

Almost 70% of the electorates deliberated on the Government’s coalpolicy, with 72% insisting Government should set up a plan to get rid of coal and replace it with renewable energy— only 7% were not in agreement with this.

“The government and the opposition have an opportunity to join mainstream Australian attitudes with climate commitments and policies which can limit carbon pollution, encourage renewable energy and clean up our energy system,” Mr. Connor finalised.

Based on TCI, the outcome of the analysis is in opposite direction to Prime Minister Abbott’s policy.
“There is a clear message in this report: ‘the Abbott government should take climate change more seriously’,” said the TCI report.

The research also suggested that the Government should rather base Australia-s post-2020 carbon emissions target on climate science and not based on what other countries practice.
“The government and the opposition have an opportunity to join mainstream Australian attitudes with climate commitments and policies which can limit carbon pollution, encourage renewable energy and clean up our energy system,” Mr. Connor stated.

Based on this statistic and the response from Australians across social media and other media sources, I believe the Government will set up new policy and look deep into renewable energy as well as make the major source of energy in Australia.
